Hindu scriptures say that there are twenty-four messengers, all of whom appeared except for one. They referred to him by some names such as: “Kalki Avatar” means the one who cleanses from sins; “Narashansa” and others.

What does Narashansa mean in Arabic & English?

The word Narashansa in Vedas is a compound of two parts: “Nar” which means man, and “ashansa” which means the praised or praised one; so the general meaning becomes the blessed or praised man.

The Arabic equivalent term to it would be something like Mahmood, Ahmed, and Muhammad; as they are all from the linguistic root (hamd); all of which are names of Prophet Muhammad.

Prominent Hindu scholars (such as Dr.Srivasdev, Pundit Sunderlal, Sri  Pal Ram Sang Parihar, Dr. P.H.Suphe, Dr. Ramesh Prasad Kruk, Pundit Durga Shankar, Swami  Amar Jyoti, and Sri Kashmiri Lal Baath) authenticated that the term Narashansa is more likely to refer to Prophet Muhammad as well as the name Kalki Avatar (review this study for more details).

Narashansa in Vedas

Vedas predicted some of the signs that will help us identify the holy Narashansa, I will gather here the most important and unique of them:

• Narashansa is a beautiful person who rides a camel:

It is mentioned in the famous Hindu book (Rigveda 2/3/3 – 2/106/4) in its talk about Narashansa that:

“He is the most beautiful on earth... and his light enters each house [on earth] ... and cleanses people from sins.”

The Hindu holy book (Atharva Veda 20/127/20) states that one of his attributes is “that he rides camels.”

1. Riding camels is a unique and distinctive characteristic of the inhabitants of the Arabian Peninsula. Prophet Muhammad also used to ride camels, and he has a she-camel called Al-Qaswaand.
2. It was also narrated that Prophet Muhammad was one of the most beautiful people ever (See: Bada’i' al-Fawa’id by Ibn al-Qayyim 3/206).
3. Prophet Muhammad’s main purpose was to purify people from sins by guiding them to the true path of God. (Quran, Surah Tawbah 103)
4. The light of his message has entered each house globally. It was even narrated that the Prophet prophesied that Islam would enter every house: “This matter [Islam] will reach as long as night and day reach”. (Ahmad narrated and others)
5. Narashansa will marry twelve wives:

The Hindu holy book (Atharva Veda 20/127/2) predicted that Narashansa “has twelve wives." While Hinduism does not acknowledge polygamy inside marriage, the wives of the Prophet Muhammad are 12:

1.  Khadija bint Khuwaylid
2. Souda bint Zama’a
3. Aisha bint Abi Bakr
4. Hafsa bint Omar
5. Zainat bint Khuzaymah
6. Hind bint Abi Umayyah
7. Zainat bint Jahsh
8. Juwayriyah bint Al-Harith
9. Rehana Bint Zaid
10. Ramla Bint Abi Sufyan
11. Safiya Bint Hayya
12. Maymoona Bint Al-Harith.

• His Companions carry his Message:

The Hindu scripture (Atharva Veda 20/127/30) also mentions Narashansa has "Hundreds of his companions [who] carry out his Message."

It is a fact that Prophet Muhammad’s carried his message to all the World during and after his lifetime. They reached his message to the farthest corners of the earth, and with it, they opened the hearts of countries and people.

• Narashansa migrates with his companions:

The Hindu holy book (Atharva Veda 20/127/1) mentions God's prophecies and promises:

“O people! Listen, Narashansa is praised, and he migrates between sixty thousand and ninety of his companions, and I will protect him from his enemies, and he rides camels and has twelve wives.”

All of these signs of Narashansa are explicit references to the Prophet Muhammad:

1. Prophet Muhammad is praised and even his names (Ahmed, Muhammad … etc) = mean the praised one.
2. He migrated to another city to spread his message with a large number of his companions. The number mentioned in the verse above may refer to the population of the city he migrated to after accepting Islam, or an indication of the large number.
3. Protection fulfilled promise also exists in the Quran for the Prophet (PBUH): “O Messenger, announce that which has been revealed to you … and Allah will protect you from the people.” (Al-Ma’idah 67)
4. He rides camels and had twelve wives as mentioned above.
5. Narashansa is circumcised, does not eat pork, and has a long beard:

The Hindu scripture (Bhavishya Purana 3/3/3/23/23-27) reports a divine speech about the last Prophet: “I show the religion of a man … is circumcised… He has a long beard … and eats every good meal except pork. His religion would prevail … The greatest God is the One who inspired this religion to him”.

All these conditions uniquely fit Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and none other than him:

• He was a circumcised man with a long beard and was promised by God that his religion would prevail over all religions (Surah al-Tawbah 33).
• It is prohibited in Islam to eat pork, Allah says in the Quran: "Prohibited to you are dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine". (Surah al-Ma’idah 145)

Muhammad’s names are mentioned in the Hindu Scriptures

Is Muhammad in Buddhist scriptures?

There are several references from Buddha who prophecizes the coming of a great Prophet with a religion that will spread so wide whose teachings will remain uncorrupted forever.

Conclusion: Is Narashansa Prophet Muhammad?

Yes, certainly. Hindu scholars argue the literal meaning of the name “Narashansa” refers to the literal meaning of Prophet Muhammad in Arabic. In addition, putting together all the unique and distinctive signs of Narashansa in Hindu scriptures, you will find that this sign combination fit none other than Prophet Muhammad:

The Arabic equivalent of Narashansa is Muhammad; he used to ride camels; his message entered each house on the globe; he had twelve wives; his companions carried his message after and during his lifetime; he emigrated from his homeland to another place; he was the circumcised Prophet with a long beard; he prohibited eating pork .. etc.
